Cosmetic Crown Lengthening

Cosmetically, Crown Lengthening is a surgical procedure carried out for patients who present with ‘gummy smile’ or reveal too much gum tissue when smiling or have the appearance of short teeth. This procedure can be carried out on one tooth or a full arch of teeth. Its main purpose is to raise the gum level to reveal more tooth structure.

Functionally, Crown Lengthening is recommended to aid in the restoration of teeth is there is significant decay or fracture below the gum line.

In some cases, gingivectomy is only required (removal of the gum) in other cases both a gingivectomy and osseous removal (removal of supporting alveolar bone) is needed.

In some cases, referral to specialist periodontologist may be required.
